Two games into its 2015 season, Shiner’s defense has yet to give up a single point to their
opponents.
The Comanches, ranked fourth in the Harris Poll and seventh in the Associated Press Class
2A division I poll, brought home a 28-0 victory over the St. Joseph Flyers in Victoria on
Friday night (September 4, 2015).
Quarterback Brandon Cerny led the team with 87 rushing yards on 6 carries, including
Shiner’s first two touchdowns of the game. The first came on a 27 yard run in the first
quarter and the second on a 5 yard run in the second.
The Comanches went into halftime with a 12-0 lead. In the second half, the Shiner defense
continued to hold strong, while the offense worked their way to two more touchdowns and a
field goal.
One of the touchdowns came on a rushing play by Justin Stein while the other came from
lineman Taylor Mraz who recovered the ball in the end zone after a Shiner fumble near the 5
yard line.
The Comanches struggled a bit hanging onto the ball over the course of the night, racking
up 4 fumbles. However, the Shiner defense held off any attempts by St. Joe to capitalize on
these mistakes.
The Comanches outran the Flyers with 275 rushing yards on 35 carries while allowing St. Joe
just 114 on 31 rushes. Chad Neubauer contributed 60 yards to the Shiner total, while
Dadrian Taylor ran for 59 yards and Stein added 50. Neubauer also completed the longest
pass of the night, a 28-yarder to Justin Stovall.
This Friday (September 11, 2015) will be the Comanches' homecoming game against the Goliad Tigers. Kickoff at
Comanche Stadium will be at 7:30pm.
