The Riviera Seahawks knew they faced a tough task in the state-ranked Shiner Comanches in the bi-district round of the 2A-Division I playoffs.

And the Comanches came out as advertised, handing the Seahawks a 68-0 loss in their return to the postseason Thursday in Three Rivers.

Shiner ended the regular season ranked No. 4 in the Texas Associated Press 2A poll, and No. 2 in the 2A-Division I Texasfootball.com poll.

"Those guys are strong, and they're quick," Riviera coach Nathan Borden said about Shiner. "We have to work hard in the offseason and in the weight room to get to the position where they are. It doesn't happen overnight, it takes years and that's what we're trying to do."

Getting back in the playoffs is an achievement in itself for the Seahawks, who only had one win two years ago in Borden's first year as their head coach.

"It's a stepping stone, and you want to build on it," Borden said. "And we'll learn from it."

Sebastian Lerma led Riviera with 33 rushing yards in the game, and Gabriel Castillo threw for 40 yards.

Blake Dupont led the Seahawk receivers with 15 yards.

Riviera's best chance to get on the board came midway through the fourth quarter, when Eddie McKee returned a Shiner fumble 38 yards to the Comanche 27-yard line.

Unfortunately for the Seahawks, they turned the ball right back two plays later.

Riviera had four turnovers in the loss.

Field position played a role in allowing the Comanches to score four times in the opening quarter on their way to the win.

Shiner's longest scoring drive in the opening frame was 65 yards, and they scored their fourth touchdown on a 55-yard pass.

The three plays that made up that scoring drive were the only plays on Shiner's side of the field in the first quarter.

Riviera finishes their season with a 7-4 record after going 3-2 in District 16 2A-Division I.
