EL CAMPO — The Shiner Comanches pretty much dominated the line of scrimmage against
rival Flatonia in a third-round playoff game.
The Comanches (13-0) ran for 430 yards, did not throw one pass and limited the Bulldogs
to 181 yards and one score in a 41-7 rout Friday night at El Campo's Ricebird Stadium.
"I thought we played very well. We played physical," Shiner head coach Steven Cerny
said. "I thought we controlled the tempo of the game offensively. Besides that one
score Flatonia had, our defense played really well."
"The only thing that worried me was the humid conditions. We got a little tired out"
The Comanches' rushing attack was led by Dadrian Taylor who ran for 241 yards and four
touchdowns with quarterbacks Ty Boedeker and Dustin Petras each adding one touchdown.
Shiner made few errors on either side of the ball but did lose a first-quarter fumble
but it did not affect the game in the long run.
"We did not let that bother us," Cerny said. "After the fumble, defense made a big stop
and we got back on track on offense."
Shiner plays Flatonia year in and year out in district, and the two teams met in the
playoffs in 2013, with Shiner taking that one as well, 35-0.

Cerny said he prefers not to play the same team a bunch of times.
"We don't change much. Flatonia does not change much. You start to get to know each so
well," he said. "At the same time, I thought we handled that really well tonight and
made good adjustments from the first game."
The Comanches' offensive line adjusted its blocking level from the first game.
"We played high on the offensive line the last time we met them and we told our line
they had to do a better job of coming off the ball," Cerny said.
The 'Dogs picked up one first down as they moved from their 20 to their 35 on their
first drive but ended up having to punt for 53 yards.
Shiner started at its 12 and got a holding call that pushed it back to the 6. A few
plays later, the Comanches got a first down after an 11-yard rush but had their one
turnover on the same play, giving Flatonia the ball at the Comanche 39. On third-and-3
from the 32, quarterback Braydon Mica gained 6 yards and first down then the Shiner
defense clamped down and Flatonia's other quarterback, Casen Novak, had a pass fall
incomplete on fourth down.
Shiner drove 77 yards for the first score — Taylor had an end-around for 13 on second-
down-and-4, from his 29 to his 42. Chad Neubauer went 11 yards on a toss play. Later a
Taylor run of 17 yards set up the Comanches at the 3 and Boedeker scored on a 1-yard
run with 11:16 left in the second quarter.
Flatonia went three and out but pinned Shiner at the 11. Taylor ripped off an 89-yard
run and Shiner was ahead 14-0 with 8:50 left in the first half.
Flatonia drove inside Comanche territory but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete. Shiner
got going with a 65-yard drive as Justin Stein had a couple of key carries and Taylor
took a toss and scored from 14 yards out for a 21-0 Comanche lead, which they would
take into the locker room.
Shiner opened the third quarter with a 66-yard drive that was nearly three minutes and
Taylor connected again, this time from 16-yards out.
On the next drive, Flatonia looked stopped as Novak scrambled for 6 on a third-and-10
play but a personal foul on Shiner kept the drive going. A 12-yard pass from Novak to
Corey Lyons converted a fourth down to the Shiner 27, Mica had a 13-yard run to the 14
and a few plays later, Matthew Kozelsky scored from 15-yards out to get the 'Dogs
within 28-7 at the 5:21 mark of the third quarter.
Flatonia unsuccessfuly attempted an onsides kick and gave the Comanches just a 48-yard
field to work with. A 21-yard run by Taylor put Shiner ahead 35-7 with 36 seconds to
go in the third.
A 1-yard run by Petras helped Shiner cap another 66-yard drive that took 13 plays and
over six minutes for the final score. A mishandled snap on the extra-point led to the
Comanches ahead 41-7.
