Shiner vs. Flatonia
7:00 p.m. Friday (November 27, 2015) at Ricebird Stadium, El Campo
The Shiner Comanches face a rematch with rival Flatonia in the regional round. Shiner won the regular-season game a few weeks ago 28-0.
Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said he feels the first game was close.
"We led just 7-0 at halftime and wore the down in the second half," he said.
"Flatonia has gotten better on offense since playing the Comanches in the regular-season finale.
"We are expecting a run-oriented physical game," Cerny said. "Flatonia has multiple formations and has trick plays that they have not had to use in the playoffs. We just need to continue to play well."
Flatonia's ground game will be paced by running back Gabe Smith with quarterbacks Brayden Mica and Casen Novak who are a threat when running the veer and can also throw the ball a little.
Cerny said he is looking for the Shiner offensive line to control the line of scrimmage.
"We need to be more physical because Flatonia really took it to us in the last game they played us," he said.
The teams met in the same round in 2013, with the Comanches winning 35-0 en route to playing in the state championship game that year.
