No. 3 Refugio at No. 4 Shiner
Two top 5 teams will battle as No. 3 Refugio visits No. 4 Shiner at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday (October 9, 2015)) at Comanche Stadium.
"It will be a good challenge. They will show us where we are at," Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said.
The Comanches used their off week to rest up and prepare for Refugio.
"We needed that week without contact to get fresh," he said. .
The Bobcats are a spread team that uses lots of motion and is very quick.
Cerny said Refugio has speed at the receiver position.
"If they catch the ball in open space, we are going to have to gang tackle them. We cannot go for the big hit; we need to just bring them down," he said.
Refugio has strong runners in quarterback Jaylon Mascorro and running back Isaiah Perez.
"Those two can hammer you up the middle," Cerny said.
The 'Cats run the 3-4 in defense but are expected to go to the 5-2 when facing the Comanches, who use a tight-end set.
"They have a good interior line and linebacker Kolbie Herring is very solid," Cerny said. "We need to make sure we sustain drives because it is not easy to pop a big play on them. We need to convert our red-zone chances and keep their offense off the field because they can score in a hurry."
