Adamek's task was to spy Falls City quarterback Braylon Johnson, and to blitz when he had the opportunity.
"My job was just to shadow him on every pass play," Adamek said. "I figured they would run it a lot more. But our blitz and the pressure we put on got to them. I think our quickness helped out a lot. I think we kind of confused them a little."
No. 10 Shiner kept Falls City out of the end zone, and captured a 21-3 District 15-2A, Division II win Friday night at Comanche Stadium.
"We knew we were going to have to use our quickness tonight and I thought we did a pretty good job of not giving up big plays because they're definitely capable of that every time they snap the ball," said Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker. "We had some guys that had good games tonight."
The Comanches improved to 4-3 and 2-0 despite playing its first game in three weeks.
"These kids practiced hard," Boedeker said. "There was not one day that we had to motivate them. We talked to them about how we had to keep it about us. They came out every day and responded. It's a credit to them to keep their focus and come out and play well against a really good team like this."
Shiner did not complete a pass and overcame the loss of two fumbles by rushing for 215 yards on its 39 attempts, including three kneel downs at the end of the game.
The Comanches scored on runs of 6 and 5 yards by Quincy Jones, who carried 12 times for 94 yards, and 25 yards by Caleb Lehnert.
"The two fumbles were the two biggest things," Boedeker said. "Other than that, I thought we moved the ball okay. We fumbled and they took it down and scored, but after that drive I think our defense got control of the game. They made some plays, but I thought we made some big ones when we had to."
Shiner's Jake Simper celebrates an interception during the first half of the Comanches' 21-3 District 15-2A, Division II win over Falls City at Comanche Stadium in Shiner.
The Beavers (4-3, 1-1) recovered a fumble at their own 5-yard line on Shiner's first possession and drove to the Comanches' 17 before settling for a 34-yard field goal by Kain Jurgajtis.
"We knew with their speed up front we hadn't really seen anything like that," said Falls City head coach Mark Kirchhoff. "Hopefully, we'll get another crack at them now that we know what's coming. Maybe our kids will perform a little bit better."
Falls City hurt its own cause by being penalized eight times for 67 yards, including six times for 52 yards in the first half.
"They executed and got those two scores on us, and every time we got a drive going we'd do something and get a flag or something," Kirchhoff said. "Their defense is tough enough as it is without you trying to help them."
Johnson had five runs of 10 yards or more, but was also sacked five times and finished with 77 yards on 21 carries.
"It was the overwhelming part of it," Johnson said of the Shiner defense. "There were eight people in our faces and there were already five blitzing towards the end of the game."
Shiner was playing a team in its own classification for the first time this season and hopes to use it as a springboard for what's to come.
"This win is big for us, really big," Adamek said. "It gives a level of where we are right now and where we could be at the end of the season."
NOTES: Shiner was presented the UIL Class 2A Lone Star Cup for the 2023-2024 school year at halftime.
