But Adams knew that going against Shiner meant the Brahmas had to be aggressive for the entire game.
"It was a very tough challenge," Adams said. "We knew that we were going to come out and play their best game, and we had to come out and play our best game. We had to be more psychical."
Adams rushed for 159 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Brahmas (2-0) defeated Shiner (1-1) 35-21 at Brahma Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
Adams and the Brahmas got a physical matchup against the Comanches, but were tested in the fourth quarter.
Shiner cornerback Dadrian Taylor had an 88-yard interception return for a touchdown that gave the Comanches a 21-14 with 10:28 left in the fourth quarter.
"We had to overcome some adversity and pull together as a team," Adams said.
The Brahmas fought back with a nine-play, 64-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run by Adams to tie the game at 21 with 7:35 left.
Hallettsville's Jordon Brooks scored on a 13-yard reverse down the sideline to put the Brahmas up 28-21.
"We worked very hard in practice to prepare for games," Brooks said. "We just try to stay strong mentally, and we did that tonight."
Brooks had eight catches for 104 yards with a touchdown and rushed for one as well.
The Brahmas defense stepped up and Colton Starns came up with an interception with 2:01 left in the fourth quarter.

Adams sealed the game with a 25-yard touchdown run with 1:37 left in the game.
Brahmas head coach Tommy Psencik has a dynamic duo with Adams and Brooks.
"They are special in the open field," Psencik said. "They're tough and strong. Jordon has been a surprise and worked hard in the offseason to get where he's at. We know what Scooter brings to the table.
"We were fortunate to win this game," Psencik added. "We made some mistakes, had some penalties and that's something that we will have to fix. Shiner has always been tough and we saw it on the field."
Shiner coach Steven Cerny saw great effort from his team.
"I was proud of them and the way they fought," Cerny said. "We had chances to win the game, but we couldn't make the plays. We learned a lot tonight, and we will get better."
The Comanches rushed for 231 yards. Taylor rushed for 156 yards with one touchdown, while quarterback Brandon Cerny rushed for 70 yards.
The Brahmas move to 2-0 with the victory, but Psencik will make sure the Brahmas stay on the correct path.
"We have a long way to go," Psenik said. "We're a young team and we have to learn to stay focus for a full game."
