Shiner repeated as Class 2A state champions in softball.

But the softball title wasn't quite enough to give Shiner its second consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup.

Shiner finished second in the Class 2A standings with 57 points.

Ironically, Windthorst, the team Shiner defeated 13-0 in the state softball final, won the trophy with 60 points.

The Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to the school in each classification based on their performance in district and state championships.

The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL.

Shiner matched Windthorst's total last year and won the 2015 Class 2A trophy 60 points.

Weimar, which won the trophy in 2013 and 2014, finished tied for fifth with 52 points.

Refugio was 13th with 41 points, and Flatonia tied for 20th with 34 points.

Goliad finished 14th in the Class 3A standings with 42 points.

Hallettsville and Industrial tied for 17th in Class 3A with 38 points.
