Shiner Comanche Football SHINER - Shiner coach Steven Cerny held a right shoe in his hand as he accepted congratulations Friday night at Comanche Stadium.

But Cerny was more concerned about the foot that was in the shoe during No. 4 Shiner's 28-7 District 15-2A, Division I win over Ganado.

Shiner quarterback Brandon Cerny injured his ankle after being sacked on the Comanches' first possession of the third quarter.

"Looks like a possible high-ankle sprain, we hope that's all it is," Steven Cerny said. "But high- ankle sprains aren't good either. They're tough to get over."

The injury put a damper on another solid performance by Shiner, which improved to 7-0 and 2-0 in district.

"We've always had some really good games with them and they have been intense," Steven Cerny said. "We were pretty sore going into the week. We still had good practices. We played well. They didn't stop us the first half. We just didn't hit big plays, which is all right."

The Comanches scored on runs of 67, 4 and 13 yards by Dadrian Taylor, who carried 15 times for 132 yards.

Shiner also scored on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Cerny to Ty Boedeker.

Brandon Cerny completed 4 of 5 passes for 71 yards.

"We came in with a normal game plan," Boedeker said. "Sometimes we pass the ball, but we want to keep running the ball."

Shiner scored on its first three possessions of the game, and the lead was never threatened.

Ganado (3-4, 0-2) did not make a first down until 3:54 was left in the second quarter and did not score an offensive touchdown.

"We just played technique," said Boedeker, who also had an interception. "Our defense is playing well, and playing physical. Coach (Billy) Turek was making good calls and we just did our thing."

The Indians' scored in the fourth quarter when Brandon Lister ripped the ball from Shiner running back Chad Neubauer and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown.

"They're championship good," said Ganado coach Keith Wright. "As long as I've been in coaching - I mean you play teams like this with the tradition. I mean they're championship good. Anybody who can beat Refugio one week, and turn around and beat a decent little Ganado team is good. They have their stuff together, they do a great job of coaching, their kids play hard and they deserve a lot of credit."

Shiner turned conservative after Brandon Cerny left the game, but backup quarterback Dustin Petras led a seven-play, 44-yard scoring drive capped by Taylor's third touchdown run.

"The second half we got a little sluggish," Steven Cerny said. "When Brandon went down, it seemed like everybody was going through the motions. But our defense still played well."

The Comanches limited the Indians to five first downs and 151 yards, 49 of which came on Matthew Sterling's run on the final play of the game.

"It was basically the same stuff that we do," Steven Cerny said. "This is a total different look than what we've had all year. Now you go from a spread to double tight coming right at you. I thought we did a good job of stepping up and stopping the run."
