Shiner's baseball team scored four and seven runs, respectively, in the two games it played last week.

The output wasn't terrible, but the Comanches lost each game by one run. So offensively, they considered it a slump.

It's probably safe to assume Shiner is back to it's normal hitting prowess and winning ways after it defeated St. Joseph, 13-2, in a non-district matchup at Riverside Stadium on Monday night.

"The No. 1 thing we talked about before the game was our approach at the plate," Comanches coach Daniel Boedeker said. "I thought we were putting too much pressure on ourselves . tonight, we went back to kind of what we were preaching earlier in the season: Get up there, be aggressive early and have fun."

Shiner had lit up the scoreboard to the tune of 10-plus runs at least five times entering Monday. It took the Comanches (11-2-1) a little while to fine tune the offense, but once they did, St. Joseph couldn't do much to stop it.

Trailing, 1-0, in the third, Ty Condel came up to the plate, and slapped a two-RBI single. Condel later scored on a wild pitch to push the Shiner advantage to two runs.

Once those runs crossed the plate, confidence spread throughout the rest of the lineup.

Blake Michalec recorded a two-RBI triple in the fourth and a single in the fifth, which brought in two more runs.

Tyler Patek also contributed with a RBI single in the fourth.

"We just tried not to think about it (our slump)," Michalec said. "Make sure it's not in anybody's head, and we came out swinging. Everybody hit excellent today."

While Michalec helped Shiner's offense get back on track, he made sure the Flyers' offense remained off course.

Michalec limited St. Joseph to just one hit, struck out three batters, and walked only one in five innings pitched.

The two runs he allowed came on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.

"Blake did a really good job on the mound tonight," Boedeker said. "He threw strikes, had him put it in play and his defense did a good job behind him."

Brandyn Seals posted the lone hit of the game for the Flyers (12-3), and Logan Terry posted the only RBI with a sac fly.

St. Joseph faces SA Cornerstone Christian Tueday, a fact coach Mike Shimek had on his mind Monday night.

"We're in between district games, and just couldn't throw our firepower at them (Shiner)," he said. "They're an extremely good hitting ball club, and that happens."
