Instead, runs were the only thing that poured.
The Lady Comanches put together an offensive showcase and defeated the Cowgirls 16-1 in a non- district matchup at Shiner.
"The last few games we've been preaching to them (the girls) that we've played really well the first two innings," Shiner coach Steve Cerny said. "Then all of a sudden the third or fourth inning, we hit a lull.
"That's kind of what I challenged them with tonight. And I was really proud of them, because they stepped it up and kept hitting the ball."
The Lady Comanches (12-3) scored nine of their 16 runs in the third and fourth innings.
Edna (6-6) struck first when Kirstie Soto scored on an error in the top of the first, but things turned sour after that point.
Shiner, which was the top ranked team in Class 2A in the Texas Girls Coaches Association softball poll earlier this week, scored on an error in the bottom half of the frame to tie it at 1.
Then the Lady Comanches just kept attacking and attacking, and scored six runs in the second to take complete control of the game.

Kassidy Bishop set the table for everybody at the top of the lineup. Bishop went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to pace Shiner in hits and RBI.
It was a balanced effort for the Lady Comanches, though. Lauren Schuette and Bethany Nevlud combined for six hits and three RBI.
Cece Darilek and Mackinly Pilat combined to add four more hits.
"If everyone does their job, then we have a pretty solid lineup," Darilek said. "We have some speed pretty much all throughout; it's a pretty good mix. Everyone hits and (the lineup) is pretty well- balanced."
Cerny said the bats are the strength of Shiner's team, but the pitchers did well Tuesday.
Darilek started the game, and Nevlud came in to relieve her in the third. The duo combined to hold the Cowgirls to just two hits in four innings of play.
Soto recorded a double and Alyssa Cavazos had a single - both in the first inning - to notch the lone two hits of the game for Edna.
