SCHULENBURG – The Shiner Comanches avenged last year's defeat to the Shorthorns on a cool and windy evening at Shorthorn Stadium on Friday night.

Schulenburg struck first on an 11 yard run by Caleb Valchar early in the first quarter. The extra point by Alex Lara was good and the Shorthorns led 7-0.

Shiner struck back with a 17-yard scamper by Chad Neubauer, but the extra try was missed and the Comanches trailed 7-6.

The teams traded several possessions until Schulenburg kicker Lara hit a 42-yard field goal to take a 10-6 Shorthorn lead.

A couple minutes later, Neubauer broke away for a 20-yard TD and his extra point kick was good for a 13-10 halftime lead.

After halftime, it was all Shiner. Early in the third, Blake Michalec connected with Dadrian Taylor on a 62 yard pass. Neubauer's kick was good and Shiner took a 20-10 advantage with 10:32 remaining in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Comanches struck twice on big plays. The first TD came on a Blake Michalec scamper right up the middle of the Schulenburg defense, out-racing several defenders 55 yards for the score. Neubauer hit the extra point and Shiner led 28-10.

After forcing the Shorthorns to punt on their next possession, Chad Neubauer scored from 36 yards out, kicked the extra point, and took a 34-10 win to the house.

Neubauer led all rushers with 104 yards on only 9 carries for 3 TD's. Michalec chipped in with 78 rushing yards and one TD, while passing for 129 yards and another score.

The Comanches will wrap up the regular season next week at home, hosting Flatonia on Parents Night at Comanche Stadium.
