Brahmas and Comanches square off Friday night

Hallettsville and Shiner handled their opponents with ease in their season-opening games.
Now, for the 11th time, the two Lavaca County schools will meet.
The Brahmas hold a 7-3 series lead.
Both teams are roughly 14 miles from each other, but a rivalry still exists.
"Shiner did a great job last year," Brahmas coach Tommy Psenick said. "We were just blessed to have things going our way."
Last season, the Brahmas topped the Comanches 49-28. Before last year, the teams last played each other in 1991.
Neither team veered off course after last year's game.
The Comanches finished the season 9-1 and went to the Class 1A, Division I semifinal before losing to Mart 42-7.
The Brahmas, meanwhile, finished the season a perfect 10-0 for the first time since 1979. They were defeated in the state quarterfinals to eventual Class 2A, Division I champion Cameron Yoe.
"This game is just as important to us," Comanches coach Steven Cerny said. "It's a great matchup for both of us. It's a gauge for where we are on the season. It's a stepping stone to prepare for district."
When the Comanches played against Industrial, Jacob Stafford, Marcus Coleman and Tyler Patek each rushed for more than 100 yards. But Cerny realizes last week's game was last week.
"We're just going to have to give 110 percent every play. You have to match them every play," Cerny said about the Brahmas. "Offensively, they did very well with the spread."
In the Brahmas win against Ganado last week, quarterback Nate Kowalik threw for 232 yards, completing 11 of 15 passes.
In last year's matchup, Kowalik lit up the scoreboard, throwing six touchdowns.
The Brahmas won, but they lost Kowalik, who was out for the season with a knee injury.
The Comanches offense will primarily run the ball. However, Psencik says he believes his team will have to prepare for whatever challenges it may face.
"We know that they are a good ball club," Psencik said. "We just prepare the same for everybody. We're just trying to get better day by day, week by week."
