AUSTIN — The Windthorst Trojanettes ran into a juggernaut named Shiner on Thursday.

Lady Comanche senior Cece Darilek pitched a perfect game, leading her team to a 13-0 run-rule victory in five innings Thursday at McCombs Field. The win clinched a second straight Class 2A state championship for Shiner (31-5). Windthorst's first state tournament berth since 2005 ends with silver instead of gold. The Trojanettes finish the season 33-4.

"They played better than us. They're a good team and they beat us," Windthorst coach Lonnie Hise said. "It's not like we made some huge mistakes. We had two errors, but they hit the ball hard. All in all, they hit the ball hard and just beat us."

Shiner didn't come out swinging, though. The Lady Comanches started the game by bunting.

Mackinzy Pilat and Hannah Nevlud each reached base by bunting and Bethany Nevlud loaded them with a fielder's choice.

Darilek brought in the game's initial run by taking a four-pitch walk and Lauren Schuette made it 2-0 when she singled up the middle on a 3-0 pitch.

A sacrifice fly scored Bethany Nevlud and a two-RBI single to right by Taylor Wenske made it 5-0.

It was just the beginning for the Lady Comanches, who were on top of Windthorst Cy Schroeder from the start.

"I really challenged our girls to hit the ball," Shiner coach Steven Cerny said. "We didn't hit the ball very well last year at state. We pitched well and played good defense, but we didn't hit it. I was happy to see us hit the ball the way we did the last two days."

Shiner added two runs in the second and one in the third before dropping another five-spot on the Trojanettes in the fourth.

Schroeder left the game with two outs in the fourth inning. She allowed 13 runs — 11 earned — on 14 hits and three walks. It was by far her roughest outing of her senior season.

Windthorst lost for just the second time this season when Schroeder started in the circle.

Junior Brooklyn King pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on one hit.

Darilek, meanwhile, baffled the Trojanette bats. She only struck out three batters, but didn't allow the ball to leave the infield. She forced 10 groundouts and was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

"She's a spin pitcher and hits spots," Cerny said. "Everything I called for her today she was putting it right where it needed to be. She was on a mission.

"People don't realize she came into the season with two herniated discs and didn't hit. We limited her to pitching. That's not completely healed, but it just goes to show how tough she is and how strong a competitor she is."

Windthorst heads home with silver medals rather than the gold they hoped for, but Hise remained proud of his team.

"You can't hang your head too low for someone just beating you," Hise said. "All year long the girls played well. One loss doesn't make a season."
