The Shiner Comanches put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season and district championship with a 61-12 rout of Yorktown Friday ( November 7, 2025 ) at Comanche Stadium.

"We have been through some hard times but we came through and won the game," running back-defensive back Quincy Jones said.

Shiner has gone undefeated in the regular season four times in the last seven seasons (including 2025) and has also won five district titles during that same period.

"An undefeated district championship is an awesome accomplishment for these kids," Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "There is not a lot of teams that can say they've gone 10-0; it's a very difficult thing to do with the schedule that we have had, we have played some very difficult teams to get to this point. We told them to celebrate going 10-0 (regular season) and be proud of the district championship because those two things are hard to get. We have to enjoy those little moments when they come around because I know what their big goal is (state champion) but at the same time, we do not want to overlook these little moments."

Jones rushed for 238 yards on just eight carries and had four touchdowns. Jarvis Williams threw for 59 yards and a touchdown to Boe Boehm while Landyn Pohler, Clayton Fric and Jace Caddell all scored rushing touchdowns.

The defense forced three turnovers and limited the Wildcats to 230 yards.

"We ran hard and blocked hard on offense; defense played good and hard. We're ready for the playoffs," Jones said.

"I thought this is one of the better games we have played all year as a unit," Boedeker said. "Both sides of the ball and on special teams, we did some good things and played a complete game. I really liked our energy; the focus was as good as it has been all year. I know this was our last home game and it was a building block going into the playoffs."

Shiner ran around 10 offensive plays in the first quarter but half of those were touchdowns.

Brody Metting is probaby very thankful he threw the ball when he did because if he had waited half a second, there is a good chance he would be on his way to the ground courtesy of Shiner defensive end Landyn Pohler.

Jones scored on a 53-yard run on the first play from scrimmage for a 7-0 lead just 10 seconds into the contest. He raced 54 yards for another score after Yorktown went three and out.

Shiner's third drive started at the 'Cat 45. Fric's inside run netted 18 to the 27 and Williams found Boehm in the right corner of the end zone for a 21-0 lead with 8:43 left in the first.

Yorktown got a first down on their next drive but it eventually stalled and a short punt set up Shiner at the Yorktown 45. Jones caught a 5-yard pass and then went 32 yards on a toss play to the 18. Pohler took an option pitch 18 yards for another touchdown for a 27-0 lead.

Shiner got another short field as Jones recovered a 'Cat fumble at their own 31. Fric had an 18-yard run and Williams connected with Jake Simper on a 12-yard pass to the 1 where Caddell scored to put Shiner up 33-0 at the 2:27 mark of the first quarter.

Williams was intercepted by Connor Saunders on the Comanches' next drive to set up Yorktown at the Shiner 43. The 'Cats drove 43 yards in eight plays, finishing things on 13-yard pass from Brody Metting to Brayden Knostman at the 6:14 mark of the second frame. The two-point pass failed, leaving Shiner ahead 33-6.

The 'Cats pinned Shiner at the 11 on the next possession; Fric relieved the pressure with a 40-yard run to the 'Cats 49 and a few plays later, Jones scored from the 27.

Yorktown had the last laugh of the first half on a 60-yard march that used up the final 4:19 with the visitors scoring on the final play of the second quarter on a 2-yard pass from Metting to Matthew Olguin on a 4th-and-goal.

The second half was pretty much all Comanches; Yorktown went three-and-out to start it. Jones scored on a 56-yard run for his fourth touchdown.

Fric and Simper got interceptions; Fric scored on a 1-yard run (set up by his 25-yard interception return) with 6:57 left in the third.

Simper's interception set up Shiner's final score: a six-play, 71-yard drive that saw Pohler gain 37 on the ground on the second play and cap the drive with an 18-yard run with less than nine minutes to play.
