The Hornets went 3-2 in non district but has won 11 games in a row, finishing first in District 8-2A-DII.
This will be Muenster's second trip to the state championship game; the Hornets won state in their first trip.
"Muenster is very similar to us. The towns are similar in size and both teams play hard-nosed football," Comanche head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "They play very physical, are well coached and are well disciplined to the little things right."
Muenster routinely lights up the scoreboard, scoring around 50.2 points a game and yielding just 15. 4 points a game on defense.
The Hornets run a balanced spread offense that starts and stops with quarterback Casen Carney. He has completed 141-of-217 for 2,990 yards and 34 touchdowns to three interceptions. He averages 199.3 yards passing a game, 65 percent completion rate and averages 21.2 yards a completion. He is also the leading rusher on the team with 1,446 yards on 178 carries, 28 touchdowns, 96.4 yards a game and an 8.1 average.
"He will be their biggest threat on offense and can run and throw. We will need to key on him and slow him down by closing the gaps and forcing him to run sideways," Boedeker said.
Nolan Peel has 939 yards on 131 rushes and 17 touchdowns; Legend Bounds has 568 yards and 16 touchdowns. Dustyn Croft will also support the running attack.
Top receivers are Garrett Hess who has 1,077 yards on 49 catches and 10 touchdowns while C. Klement has 867 yards on 36 receptions and 13 touchdowns. Ethan Hinton can also make plenty of catches.
"They just have so many weapons on offense. Our defense will need to win the line of scrimmage and get lots of players to the football. We will need to prevent big plays and come off blocks quickly," Boedeker said.
On defense, the Hornets like to line up in the split but will be multiple.
"They don't stunt a lot but they are very quick off the ball and get lots of defenders to the ball carrier," Boedeker said. "Our offensive line will have to block well; we will have to put drives together because it is very tough to get a big play against them and score when we have the chance. Avoiding turnovers and penalties will also be key," Boedeker said. "Our offense basically has to stay on the field for long periods of time to keep the ball out of Muenster's offense's hands."
Shiner's last appearance in the state game was also their last state championship, was in 2021 where they beat Hawley 47-12. That title was the second of two straight championships for Shiner, having defeated Post 42-20 in 2020. Both games were at the 2ADI level.
This will be the seventh time for Shiner to play in the state championship game at any classification with appearances in 1986, 2003, 2004, 2013, 2020 and 2021.
Shiner has won four total state football titles in 1986, 2004, 2020 and 2021.
Shiner will be the visitors for the game.
