The Shiner Comanches face off against the Bremond Tigers at 7 p.m. today [ Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 7:00pm ] at the FCU Stadium in Cypress in the Class 2A-DII state football semifinals.

Shiner last played in the state semifinals in 2021.

"It is definitely a great thing to still be playing at this time," Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "We cannot overlook Bremond. The players have to focus and keep their noses down, and work."

Bremond is a juggernaut on offense with 47.57 points a game and has yielded just 16.5 yards a game on defense.

The Tigers lean towards the run with 283.5 yards a game but will also throw the ball some, getting 154 yards a game.

"They are a spread team that is balanced and very good at run-pass option (RPO) plays," Boedeker said. "Our defense cannot give big plays; we have to force them to drive the ball and we have to get stops. Their offensive line is aggressive and the tackles stand out."

Tank Scott is the leading rusher and has almost 2,000 yards on the season with 1,837 yards on 212 carries, 131.2 a game, 8.7 a carry, a long of 94 and has scored 28 touchdowns.

"He is not too big but runs hards, is very physical and is tough to tackle," Boedeker said.

Xavier Clark is the second-leading rusher with 457 yards and six touchdowns, and Tyrig Scott had 351 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Sam Kasowski has completed 120-of-172 passes for 2,047 yards, 25 touchdowns, three interceptions and 17.1 yards a completion.

Main receiver is Tristan Morehead who has 785 yards on 30 catches and 10 touchdowns.

"They have three to four receivers who have the speed to take a pass into the end zone. We cannot really key on just one. We have to have a good scheme," Boedeker said.

The Tigers run a '50' look on defense and will shift into a 6-2 to crowd the box.

"It will be very crucial for the offensive line to stay on blocks," Boedeker said.

The winner will play either Gruever or Muenster next Wednesday (Dec. 18) in the 2ADII championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
