For the second week in a row, the Shiner Comanches varsity football did not play a game.
Due to not having enough healthy players to play a varsity game, the Charlotte Trojans forfeited their game scheduled ( for Friday, October 11, 2024 ) in Charlotte.
The announcement was made on the Shiner ISD Facebook page on the evening of (Tuesday) October 8th.
"The Charlotte athletic director Lamar Rodriguez and myself were in contact on October 8 about possibly not playing and their superintendent Roger Solis was in touch with Alex Remschel (Shiner ISD superintendent) and decided to cancel the game," Comanche athletic director and head football coach Daniel Boedeker said.
He said with the district rules on forfeits, this game will be marked down as an 18-0 win for Shiner.
With the unexpected bye week, the Shiner Comanches stuck to their normal open-week schedule.
"On Friday (October 11), we had a walkthrough and some conditioning to stay sharp. Obviously, we didn't have the pregame workout and a game itself," Boedeker said.
He said some of the coaching staff went and watched games involving Shiner's remaining district opponents.
"We took a look at the teams we'll be facing (this week) and down the road," Boedeker said.
The Comanches will host Falls City in this week's contest.
Next week, the Comanches will play at Pettus before closing out the season home to Louise and at Yorktown.
