Running back Quincy Jones rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns while Carson Schuette rushed for 99 yards and two scores as Shiner put the clamps down on the Luling Eagles 56-7 Friday ( September 27, 2024 ) at Comanche Stadium.
The Comanches (2-3) scored 49 of their 56 points in the first half, ran the ball 36 times for 386 yards for a 10.7 per carry, and held Luling to six first downs and 106 total yards while grabbing three turnovers.
"This was a good way to end the non district. The kids have gone through a tough schedule (so far) and our goal was to get better every game with the tough opponents we had and we did that," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "Our players came to work each week, got ready for this next game and we are making progress but just have to continue to get better."

Shiner is open this week before opening 15-2ADII play next week at Charlotte.
"Our tackling is still a work in progress. We have smaller guys out there trying to tackle bigger people," Boedeker said. "We are getting better at tackling and I like the way we are playing physical on both sides of the ball. We also have to clean up penalties; had way too many tonight."
The teams traded scores early in the game - Jones scored on a 53-yard run on Shiner's first play from scrimmage and Luling responded with a 56-yard drive that lasted nearly five minutes, ending on a 35-yard pass from Gary Cantu to Braecyn Spencer.
Shiner's second drive went quick with 54 yards in four plays, capped by a 45-yard run by Schuette on a quarterback sneak.
Shiner recovered a fumble on the first play of the Eagles' first drive at the Luling 19. Two plays later, Jones scored from the 13 for a 20-7 lead after the PAT was missed. On the next drive, Jake Simper intercepted Cantu to set up Shiner at the Eagle 20 and it was a quick three-play drive with Caleb Lehnert scoring on a 12-yard run and adding the two-point play.

The Eagles moved the ball close to the 50 but had to punt and the return by Simper to the Luling 42 led to a two-play drive with Schuette optioning to the left and scoring from 42 yards out.
Shiner recovered a fumble on the kickoff and went up 42-7 on a 7-yard run by Caleb Cowan at the 5:47 mark of the second quarter.
Shiner got a fourth-down stop around the Luling 40 and capitalized on a 22-yard run by Triston Vesely with 1:33 left in the first half.
Shiner scored once more, getting a two-play, 67-yard drive with Lehnert going 27 yards from his 33 to the Eagle 40 and Jones scoring his third on the next play.
For the remaining quarter and half, the Comanches got in some reserve players to get some repetitions.
The backup offense got close to scoring after driving from the Shiner 16 to inside the Eagle 10. Third-string quarterback Chase Malinovsky had a 4-yard sneak on a 4th-and-1 from the plus 29 and ran 16 yards to the 8. Later, a penalty and some negative-yard plays pushed Shiner back to the 24 where they had 4th-and-goal. Cowan took a pitch and almost scored but was stopped at the 2, giving the Eagles the ball back.
Since Shiner High School was celebrating their 2024 Homecoming festivities, Morgan Lenehan and Rakin Wallace were crowned Homecoming Queen and King during half-time festivities
