The Brahmas had other ideas as quarterback Mycole Pegoda scrambled for a 6-yard touchdown and Tradyn Williams had a two-point run to put the visitors ahead 22-15 with 22 seconds left in the game.
That score completed a 22-point Brahmas second half to rally from 15-0 down at the break and two scores in the final quarter to come back from 15-8.
Following Jake Simper's kickoff return to the Shiner 35, the Comanches tried two hook-and-lateral plays that got them down to the Brahmas 25 as time expired.
"It's tough to lose right at the end, with 20-something seconds left and Hallettsville was able to convert," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "Give the Brahmas credit for being able to finish that drive there. We are going to get better from this game, there is no doubt. Hallettsville is a good football team and I thought our kids battled hard for four quarters. If they continue to do that, we will continue to get better every week."

The Comanches had struggled with tackling throughout the scrimmages and had a little trouble at times against Hallettsville.
"That is what hurt us and we knew quarterback Mycole Pegoda was a very strong runner and the rest of the guys run hard. We have to do a better job of tackling and not giving up too many yards after contact."
Shiner had 161 yards of offense in the first half and two touchdowns but were held to 63 yards in the second half, with 40 of those yards coming on two pass plays at the end of the game.
"We put ourselves in some good spots and then we would have a penalty or something early. Those are just things we have to clean up," Boedeker said.
For Hallettsville, Pegoda ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns with Matthew Montgomery adding one score.
After forcing the Comanches to punt on the game's opening drive, Hallettsville's first possession was hammered by some penalties and some fumbles; the drive ended poorly for the Brahmas as Shiner's Jarvis Williams intercepted Pegoda to set up the Purple at their own 18.

Jones had runs of 16 and 10 yards to move the ball to the 44. A few plays later, at the 50, Shiner faced a 4th-and-4, and Jones sped through for 9 yards and a first down. Several plays later, Jones scored on a 24-yard run to put Shiner ahead 7-0 after Bode Werner's PAT with 10:30 left in the second quarter.
The Brahmas committed another turnover when Kason Podhajsky caught a 12-yard pass from Pegoda on a 3rd-and-14 but fumbled the ball and the Comanches took over at their own 42 and then drove 58 yards in nine plays with scrambles of 14 and 8 yards by quarterback Carson Schuette to help get Shiner to the 31 and then a reverse by Boe Boehm set up Shiner at the 2-yard line where Jones scored his second.
In the third quarter, Pegoda scored on a 5-yard yard run to cap a nine-play, 60-yard drive in which he had a 20-yard scramble and Williams had a 22-yard run. Pegoda ran in the two-point run to get Hallettsville within 15-8 with 6:34 left in the frame.
Montgomery's short 2-yard run with 10:42 left in the game got Hallettsville within one point but Shiner stopped the two-point play that would have put the Brahmas ahead 16-15.
Shiner is at Rice this week.
