There was plenty of scoring between Shiner and 3A Tidehaven in the Comanches Towel and Soap Scrimmage on Friday evening ( August 13, 2024 ).
The teams combined for nine touchdowns with Tidehaven getting a slight advantage 5-4 at the end.
The Shiner first-team offense scored one touchdown and the second group scored three times.
For the Tigers, the first offense had one touchdown while the second team had four scores.
"There was a lot we can improve on," Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "One of the biggest things was to make sure we played physical. I saw us be physical. Tidehaven is a good team. We had some turnovers and have to work on our tackling."
"I thought overall we did a good job. We put a good drive together on offense to score first. We did good on the offensive line setting the tone and our backs finished it. Our first-team defense kept Tidehaven out of the end zone the first time they were on the field and Tidehaven's first offense scored on their last series."
Neither team's first-team offense was able to score on their opening possessions.
The Comanches' second-team offense scored three times: a 65-yard run, a 39-yard run and a 2-yard run.
The Tigers' second-team offense scored twice, a 37-yard pass and a 2-yard run.
Shiner's first-team offense then scored on its second possession: a 7-yard run; the Tigers first offense then scored on a 1-yard run.
The Tidehaven second offense tied the scrimmage and then took the lead on its second possession, scoring on a 5-yard run and a 1-yard run.
The Shiner first-team offense ran 22 plays for 120 yards, 20 rushes for 100 yards and went 1-for-2 passing with 20 yards with one touchdown, six first downs, two fumbles with none lost.
The second-team offense ran 23 plays for 225 yards, 21 rushes for 199 yards, was 1-for-2 passing with 26 yards and one interception; lost three fumbles, had nine first downs and scored three times.
Overall, the Comanches ran 45 plays for 345 yards, 41 rushes for 299 yards, 2-for-4 passing with one interception and 46 yards. They fumbled five times, lost three and made 15 first downs. The entire Shiner team had one penalty for 10 yards.
The Tigers total offense was 52 plays for 390 yards, 28 rushes for 136 yards, 17-24 passing for 254 yards and 21 first downs.
Tidehaven had four penalties for 35.5 yards.
The Comanches will scrimmage at Ganado at 6 p.m. today ( Friday, August 22, 2024 ).
They open the regular season on Friday, August 30 against Hallettsville at 7:30 p.m.
