The Shiner football team wrapped up preseason scrimmages at Ganado last Thursday ( August 22, 2024 ).

There was plenty of scoring between Shiner and 3A Tidehaven in the Comanches Towel and Soap Scrimmage on Friday evening ( August 13, 2024 ).

The teams combined for nine touchdowns with Tidehaven getting a slight advantage 5-4 at the end.

The Shiner first-team offense scored one touchdown and the second group scored three times.

For the Tigers, the first offense had one touchdown while the second team had four scores.

"There was a lot we can improve on," Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "One of the biggest things was to make sure we played physical. I saw us be physical. Tidehaven is a good team. We had some turnovers and have to work on our tackling."

"I thought overall we did a good job. We put a good drive together on offense to score first. We did good on the offensive line setting the tone and our backs finished it. Our first-team defense kept Tidehaven out of the end zone the first time they were on the field and Tidehaven's first offense scored on their last series."

Neither team's first-team offense was able to score on their opening possessions.

The Comanches' second-team offense scored three times: a 65-yard run, a 39-yard run and a 2-yard run.

The Tigers' second-team offense scored twice, a 37-yard pass and a 2-yard run.

Shiner's first-team offense then scored on its second possession: a 7-yard run; the Tigers first offense then scored on a 1-yard run.

The Tidehaven second offense tied the scrimmage and then took the lead on its second possession, scoring on a 5-yard run and a 1-yard run.

The Shiner first-team offense ran 22 plays for 120 yards, 20 rushes for 100 yards and went 1-for-2 passing with 20 yards with one touchdown, six first downs, two fumbles with none lost.

The second-team offense ran 23 plays for 225 yards, 21 rushes for 199 yards, was 1-for-2 passing with 26 yards and one interception; lost three fumbles, had nine first downs and scored three times.

Overall, the Comanches ran 45 plays for 345 yards, 41 rushes for 299 yards, 2-for-4 passing with one interception and 46 yards. They fumbled five times, lost three and made 15 first downs. The entire Shiner team had one penalty for 10 yards.
