HALLETTSVILLE - The Shiner Comanches knew Schulenburg would be an improved team from the one they faced in the last week of the regular season.

The Comanches focused and took care of business in downing the Shorthorns 67-21 Friday night at Hallettsville's Brahma Memorial Stadium in the 2ADI regional semifinals.

"We knew they were improved, especially on the offensive side," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "On both sides, they had some players out that had returned including some starters.

Our guys knew they could not take Schulenburg for granted and knew they were going to have to come out and play as hard as they could."

Shiner shut out Schulenburg in the first half, had 500 yards of offense and plenty of touchdowns, as well as a score on special teams and defense.

Beck Bishop scored three touchdowns in three different ways - he ran for a score, returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass late in the first half.

Tyler Bishop had a touchdown catch with Doug and Dalton Brooks combining for 296 rushing yards and four touchdowns; Cale Shows added a rushing score and Eli Fric had an pick six.

Schulenburg kicked off to start the game, and kicked and recovered an onsides kick but a 4th-and-8 play resulted in an 8-yard loss and turnover on downs at the Shiner 47. Dalton Brooks carried three times for 19 yards; Doug Brooks had a 21-yard gain on a 3rd-and-11 after a couple of false start calls. Dalton Brooks capped the drive with a 12-yard run and 7-0 Shiner lead with 7:25 to go in the first.

The 'Horns managed to drive past the 50 but were stopped at the Shiner 48 and punted. After starting at their own 24, Shiner had third down at the 32 and Doug Brooks ripped off a 46- yard run to the 22. A couple of plays later, Beck Bishop scored on a 6-yard run for a 14-0 lead.

The Comanches went up 21-0 with less than 90 seconds to go in the quarter when Tyler Ryba was intercepted by Fric for a 22-yard touchdown return.

Schulenburg's next possession ended in a 17-yard punt to their own 38. Dalton Brooks scored on a 36-yard run on the third play for a 27-0 lead after the PAT was missed with 11:09 left in the half. Another three-and-out for Schulenburg gave Shiner good field position again at the plus-49. Doug Brooks capped a short drive with a 34-yard run on the third play for a 34-0 Shiner lead with 8:17 left.

On Schulenburg's next offensive possession, Doug Brooks blocked the punt and Beck Bishop picked up the ball at the 32 and ran it in for a 41-0 Shiner lead.

The Comanches added another 13 points in the last three-and-half minutes - Drew Wenske tossed a 42-yard pass to Tyler Bishop and with just seconds left, Wenske had completions of 9, 22 and 10 yards to Doug and Dalton Brooks, respectively before hitting Beck Bishop with a pass close to the west sideline in which Bishop could have gone out of bounds to stop the clock and set up Shiner for a field-goal attempt. Instead, he tight-roped the sidelines and scored with no time left on the clock.

Schulenburg opened the third frame with a three-play, 63-yard drive, capped by a 56-yard run by John Davis to get on the board 54-6.

The Horns pulled more points back when Shiner fumbled a snap on the next drive and Manny Herrera recovered and scored on a 46-yard return; Schulenburg also converted the two-point play.

Schulenburg got the ball back on the kickoff at the Shiner 46 and drove down to the 15 where they missed a 32- yard field goal.

Shiner immediately capitalized, starting with a 32-yard rush by Doug Brooks to the Horn 48 and several plays later, had a 21-yard run to put Shiner ahead 61- 14 with 4:24 left in the third.

Later, the Comanches scored on a 3-yard run by Cale Shows after Jordan Harris picked off a Ryba pass with 2:25 left in the game. Schulenburg got one more score on a 4-yard run by Davis with less than minute left in the game.
