The St. Paul Cardinals open the playoff season in the regional round against Bryan Brazos Christian on Friday ( November 18, 2021 ) in Giddings, while the Shiner Comanches play Three Rivers in the area round in La Vernia, also on Friday.
SHINER COMANCHES VS. THREE RIVERS BULLDOGS
The Comanches take on Three Rivers at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the area round at La Vernia's Bear Stadium.
Shiner and Three Rivers played a bi-district game in 2016 in Shiner in a 41-12 win by the Comanches.
Three Rivers is 7-4 (2-2) and defeated Premont in the bi district game 69-26; Shiner downed Harper 76-6.
"We know the games are going to get tougher every week of the playoffs," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said.
Three Rivers is multiple on offense with favorite formations the spread and a tight-end wing set where they will run misdirection.
The 'Dogs have had four different players throw a pass this season and are led by Zachary Davis who has completed 48-of-84 for 644 yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions. Caden Soliz had hit 36-of-66 for 534 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
Three Rivers averaged 217.1 yards rushing a game and the leader is Rigoverto Sanchez (80-555, six touchdowns) with Kaiyden Inman (51-547, five touchdowns) and Soliz (47-404, five touchdowns); Davis had 383 yards and nine touchdowns.
Derek Lancaster leads the receiver corps with 498 yards and nine touchdowns.
"We will have to have a plan to stop both the pass and the run," Boedeker said.
Jacob Amaro is the leading tackler with 92 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss and six sacks. "They run the split on defense and like to bring the linebackers on the outside so our linemen will have to make sure they get everyone blocked," Boedeker said.
