GANADO - Ganado quarterback Kyle Bures-Guerrero and his Indian offense gave the Comanches some reps in defending both a pass-happy offense and a quarterback with happy feet.

Shiner did well on the exam as Bures-Guerrero got just 182 yards through the air and one touchdown, and the Comanche offense ran over the Indians with 542 yards in a 49-7 rout in Ganado Friday night ( October 22, 2021 ).

"We knew their offense was going to present a little bit of challenge. I thought our secondary did a good job. We missed some tackles early in the game but once we got used to their speed and what they were trying to do, I thought we played well on the back end with our secondary and linebackers," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "We finally starting getting some pressure on the quarterback with the defensive line. Overall, a good group effort against a good offense."

Dalton Brooks led the offensive pack with 300 rushing yards and five touchdowns; Doug Brooks ran for 67 yards and a touchdown. Shiner also got two interceptions on defense including points off a pick six by Eli Fric.

"Offensively, we were explosive, and Dalton Brooks had a great game. I though all the backs ran hard and blocked well for each other; offensive line gets better each week," Boedeker said.

Dalton Brooks got an interception on Ganado's game-opening drive to put Shiner at the Indian 39 and several plays later, Dalton Brooks scored on a 20-yard run with 9:24 left in the first.

Shiner got a turnover on downs on the next drive at the Ganado 49. A short gain by Dalton Brooks on a 3-and-1 play kept things going. Doug Brooks had a big 24-yard run to the 4 and he scored on the next play for a 14-0 lead with 3:11 left in the first period.

Shiner drove down inside the red zone on its next possession but ended up losing a fumble; Ganado went three and out to put Shiner at their own 30. Beck Bishop, Doug Brooks and Dalton Brooks had runs of 10, 15 and 14 yards to start the drive. Beck Bishop had a 17-yard gain to the 8 and Dalton Brooks scored on the next run for a 21-0 advantage with 6:38 left in the half.

Fric got his 34-yard pick six on the next drive; Ganado got a spark on a 37-yard pass from Burrers-Guerrero to Josiah Sterling on the next Indian possession. That drive ended on fourth down as Shiner forced an incomplete pass at its 35. Dalton Brooks was dropped for a short loss back to the 33 and he then simply took a toss play and raced 67 yards for another Shiner score.

Dalton Brooks had another long scoring run on a 59-yard jaunt with 23 seconds left in the half for a 42-0 lead.

Shiner took the second-half kickoff and marched 78 yards in three plays, capped by a 78-yard run by Dalton Brooks.

Later in the third quarter, Shiner moved from its 33 all the way to the Indian 4 on the back of Trace Bishop but he was held to a 3-yard run on a 4th-andgoal play from the 4.

Bures-Guerrero had completions of 14 and 12 yards to move Ganado out of the danger zone and had a 30-yard scramble from his 37 to the Shiner 33. He found Riley Hurt on a 22-yard touchdown pass with under eight minutes left to play, the first time Shiner has given up points in district after shutouts at Flatonia and home to Weimar.
