The Comanches and Cardinals open this season this week - the Shiner St. Paul Cardinals are at home and the Shiner Comanches play their opener on the road.

SHINER COMANCHES AT HALLETTSVILLE BRAHMAS

The
Hallettsville Brahmas came very close to winning a state championship, losing to Jim Ned in overtime and will have a good chance again this year with 20 lettermen, 10 offensive and seven offensive starters returning.

Hallettsville offensive efforts will be led by quarterback Trace Patek, wide receiver Chase Janak, Hermes at lineman and Hartwell at running back.

"We will have to defend the run and the pass well. Their quarterback throws well; they have big and athletic offensive line who stay on their blocks well," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. "We will need to be quick off the ball and shed blocks."

Linebacker Price Pruett with linemen Lance Bludau and Sam Hermes, linebackers Cam'ron Alamilla and Bowen Higgins, and defensive back Damani Hartwell will anchor the Brahmas defense.

"Their defensive line is big so we will need to win the line of scrimmage," Boedeker said. "They have a good linebacker corp that is quick and runs to the football well. Their secondary is extremely athletic."

"Our offense will need to sustain drive, and have no turnovers and penalties."

Last season, the Comanches defeated the Brahmas 44-34 in Shiner.
