The Shiner Comanches take on Hearne in the area playoff round while the Shiner St. Paul Cardinals play Dallas Covenant in the regional round.
HEARNE EAGLES AT SHINER COMANCHES
For the second year in a row, the Shiner Comanches, District 15-2A-D1 champions, will meet the Hearne Eagles in the area round.
Slightly different will be the site as the game will be at TJ Mills Stadium in Sealy and is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Shiner expects the Hearne team to be very similar to last year’s squad.
“On their spread offense, they are going to be extremely fast. They have lots of weapons,” Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said.
“Quarterback Micah Smith will be the best dual-threat quarterback we will face. He can run well, is elusive and scrambles well when you get pressure on him.”
Smith’s passing targets include wide receiver Damian Dunn and Jalen Gonzales.
“We will have to get lots of guys to the football because of their speed and tackle well,” Boedeker said. “The biggest key is not let Hearne make a big play.”
The Eagles run the 50 on defense with some 4-2-5 mixed in there.
“They are big and quick on the line; the linebackers blitz a lot. They are an attacking defense,” Boedeker said.
“We will have to stay on our blocks very well and have sustained drives.”
Linebacker Alijah Miles and defensive end Quinston Owens are the top defensive players for Hearne.
Last year, Shiner won 55-20.
