VANDERBILT INDUSTRIAL COBRAS AT SHINER COMANCHES

The Comanches have their home opener against 3A DI Vanderbuilt Industrial.

“They are a team we are familiar with,” Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. “They have good size, are physical and will come right at us.”

The Cobras won their opener by defeating Mathis 47-20. Shiner christened Boedeker’s first game as head coach with a 55-20 walloping of neighbor and rival Hallettsville, who will face Industrial in district later on.

The Cobras run a variation of the Slot-T and often run out of the shotgun but will also go under center.

“They run it well with fullback Blayne Moreland who is big and a physical runner. We will have to get people to the ball quickly,” Boedeker said. “Quarterback Karston Wimberly runs the offense well and they have good outside receivers.”

Industrial runs a split on defense, and has a pair of solid linebackers and a good line

Last week, Shiner accumlated 115 yards in flags and lost four fumbles.

Boedeker said those were the two main things Shiner focused on in practice to fix.

It was a low-scoring game last season, but Shiner’s defense rose to the occasion with a 14-0 shutout.
