The Lady Comanches had all three relay teams, long jumper and 300 hurdler. The Shiner boys sent the 800m- and 400m-relay squads. The Shiner girls scored 40 points to place third in the 3A girls standings, getting Gold medals in two relays.
“Very proud of our Lady Comanches,” Shiner head girls track coach Ce Ce Oden said. “We were hoping to add points in our other three state qualifying events as we knew we had opportunities to earn points for the team standings giving us a chance to be a contender for the team title. It is great to be competing with the eight best in the state and to know each of our five events were worthy at the highest level to score.”
In the 400m-relay, Sabrina Blaschke, Kyondra Miller, Bailey Machacek and Rashel Bonds placed first with 48.73. The 800m-team of Blaschke, Machacek, Miller and Bonds finished in 1:43.64 to earn the gold for that race.
The relays have been a staple at state the last several years.
“I am excited that three of the last four years, we have qualified all three relays,” Oden said.
Machacek placed seventh in the 300m hurdles with 48.09; Blaschke finished seventh in the long jump with a best jump of 17-1 1/4 and had other distances of 16-9, 16-9 3/4, 16-7 1/2, 16-11 1/2 and 17- 1/4. Kayla McCarthy, Mari Grosenbacher, Miller and Bonds placed ninth in the 1600m-relay with a time of 4:15.01.
Oden said she wanted to thank the parents, community, school administration and staff for all of their support for the Lady Comanches.
The Shiner Comanche boys tied for 16th place with 12 points, with a top 3 finish in the 800m-relay.
The 800m-relay team of Tyler Hoy, Zane Rhodes, Trevor Haynes and Donyai Taylor came in third place with a time of 1:29.20 to win Shiner 12 points.
