Shiner Comanche Football It is Week 2 for high-school football playoffs: the St. Paul Cardinals play Bryan Brazos Christian in the regional round at 7 p.m. Friday ( November 24, 2017 ) at The Woodlands Christian. The Shiner Comanches have what will no doubt be an intense game with Mason Punchers in the 2A-DI area at Pflugerville’s Pfield at 7 p.m. Friday ( November 24, 2017 ).

Shiner Comanches vs. Santa Maria Cougars

The Comanches meet up with the Punchers for the second straight year in the second round. Last year, Mason won 34-28 in overtime.

“They are not as big as they were last year but are quick and have team speed,” Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said.

The Punchers like to run things out of the Slot-T and also will go to the shotgun. Cerny expects some hard-nosed running by halfback Jake Cockerham and fullback Klay Klaerner.

“They are really tough runners,” he said. “Quarterback Otto Wofford is a good athlete, He has gotten quicker and has a good arm.”

Cerny said the Comanche defensive line will be key.

“We have to tackle well by wrapping up and gang tackling,” he said.

It will be key for the Shiner offense to get off to a quicker start than last year’s contest.
