After a scrimmage canceled and then rescheduled (in place of the opening game), Shiner officially “started” the 2017 season Friday evening.

The Shiner Comanches got win No. 1 as they won 35-20 at Brazos on Friday ( September 15, 2017 ).

Shiner opened scoring with a 56-yard run by Donyai Taylor at the 6:38 mark of the first quarter and Cole Jalufka added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Brazos got on the board with a 2-yard run Daimon Lafrance late in the second quarter. The two-point play was no good, leaving Shiner ahead 7-6 at halftime.

The Comanches got two scores within a three-minute span in the third quarter, on runs of 36 and 1 yard by Tyler Mikes to give Shiner a 19-6 lead.

The Cougars cut the lead to 19-14 on the 79-yard run by Lyndon Hardin with six minutes left in the quarter.

Shiner added a 4-yard run by Mikes and Lane Nevlud added the two-point conversion, pushing the Comanches’ advantage to 27-14 with 19 seconds left in the third.

Brazos got a 4-yard run by Hardin with 8:42 left in the contest to get within 27-20.

Shiner put the game away a minute or two later as Mikes connected with Jalufka for a 67-yard touchdown pass and Jacob Cowan added a two-point conversion.
