Shiner freshman Bethany Nevlud has been named the 2015 Gonzales Cannon Player of the Year.

She smacked a home run in the 2015 title game that was a 3-0 win over Harleton and earned Class 2A state tournament MVP. She played third base and pitcher, had 28 runs and 39 hits on 90 at-bats with 12 doubles, a pair of triples and four home runs with 31 RBI. She had a .433 batting average and was 7-3 on the mound with two saves, 23 runs, 15 earned runs, a 1.81 ERA and was 28-2A District Newcomer of the Year.

Shiner head softball coach Steven Cerny has been named Co-Coach of the Year for the 2015 Gonzales Cannon Area Softball team.

Last year, Steven Cerny got his team to the regional finals where they lost to Weimar in his first season as coach. In 2015, Shiner went all the way to the Class 2A state title game and won that to earn the first softball title for the Lady Comanches since 2011.

Cerny shares the honor with first-year Gonzales coach Sam White, who helped the Lady Apaches earn a second-place finish in district and most importantly, get the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Gonzales fell in the first round to state-ranked Burnett.
