CLASS 2A, DIVISION I AREA PLAYOFF
Mason (10-0) vs. Shiner (10-1)
It’s a shame one of these two teams has to get bounced in the second round. But this clash
is one you won’t want to miss. Both teams have explosive offenses that can put a ton of
points on the scoreboard.
Mason gets it done by dominating up front with offensive lineman Kyle Zavala and pounding
the ball with workhorse running back Luis Castillo out of the Wing-T offense.
Shiner is also a run heavy team that operates out of the double tight end veer. The
Comanches’ strong rushing attack is led by running back Chad Neubauer, who is a threat
to take it to the house on every carry.
So which defense can take control up front and at least slow down these stud ball carriers?
Well, Mason’s defense is built like a brick wall, giving up just 74 points total all year.
Shiner’s unit isn’t too shabby either, allowing just 16 points per contest with defensive
end Dillon Kalina leading the charge.
EJ’s pick: Shiner 24, Mason 23
