Yoakum and Shiner football won their season openers Friday night.
The Bulldogs won at home over Hondo, 46-28, while the third ranked
Comanches won at home over Goliad, 34-13.

Third-ranked Shiner hosted Goliad. A full house packed in
for Shiner.
"Non-district game, 3A Goliad Tigers in there ... first one
under new head coach Bobby Nicholson.
"First play of the second half, Brandon Cerny of Shiner
back to pass ... intercepted ... it was intended for Dadrian
Taylor, but Junior Moya got the interception.
"Goliad then takes the ball down the field, fourth and long
situation ... and the pass is knocked away by Taylor.
"Let's go to the final score there ... Shiner wins it by a
score of 34 to 13."
