Don Brubaker, NewsCenter25 Sports Director:
"Howard Esse got to cover another one of the area's unbeaten teams, the fourth-ranked Shiner Comanches and their great band headed to state once again. They were at home against Ganado in 15-2A Division 1 action.
"Opening series of the game, quarternback Brandon Cerny of the Comanches under center, pitches the ball to running back Dadrian Taylor who takes it ... and he is GONE ... 67 yards. That's the way to start a game.
"Hey, we got those Fever t-shirts out there ... she put them out in Edna, we got 'em out to the East game.
"And then here's Cerny, deep ball ... Ty Boedeker ... YES! He gets that foot in there. That is a great catch by Ty Boedeker ... 19-yard touchdown on a 3rd and 18. Later in the second, that's Dadrian again ... this time from four yards out. He's got it. Shiner ahead 21-nothing.
"Now, Ganado starts getting a drive here. Here's Michael Maresh to Garrett McCann. He runs about 20 yards. That's Maresh the fullback. Brandon Lister out of the backfield, to about the 24 yard line of Shiner. But the Indians faced 4th and long, deep in the first half so they decided to go for it, nothing to lose.
"Maresh tosses it to Caleb Thedford ... but it's Boedeker there with the interception. And Shiner closes the half leading 21-nothing.
"The latest score from the Cleanest Little City in Texas ... it is a final ... Shiner wins it 28 to 7. So, now the Comanches 7-0 overall, 2-0 in district. And this is the best start for Shiner in 7 years."
