EDNA - Shiner turned in an impressive performance to overwhelm the Woodsboro Eagles 48-13 Friday night in a Class 1A area playoff at Cowboy Memorial Stadium.

The word "perfect" was even uttered by Shiner head coach Steven Cerny. And there was reason to.

Quentin Wright rushed for 139 yards on 14 carries and scored touchdowns of runs of 3, 1 and 6 yards while quarterback Garet Pustka added 88 yards on 15 carries and touchdowns on runs of 3 and 10 yards. Eric Murphy added a 1-yard touchdown run and 73 yards on 13 carries while Steven Evans added a 10-yard touchdown run and picked up 31 yards on six carries.

"I thought we looked pretty good on both sides of the ball, " said Cerny. "We were able to move the ball down the field and we executed well. The offensive line made good blocks. It just seems like it was one game where you have perfect execution.

"The defense had a couple of breakdowns that gave them scoring opportunities, but overall it was a great performance," he added.

Woodsboro (4-7) managed just 164 yards and spent the game trying to slow down the Comanches (11-1). The Eagles scored twice on a pair of Justin Kinslow touchdown passes of 2 and 11 yards to Ryan Autry. But nothing the Eagles did could stop the Comanches from reaching the regional round and a date with the Thorndale Bulldogs, who beat Burkeville, 55-33, Friday night.

"Our kids didn't quit," said Woodsboro head coach Max McGeary. "Our kids did everything they knew to do, the best they could do. Shiner is a good team and I hope they have a lot of success."

Shiner dominated the first half, scoring on four of its five possessions. On the fifth possession, the Comanches came up a yard shy on the last play of the first half.

The tone for the game was set on Shiner's first offensive play as Quentin Wright ran around the right end for 61 yards to the Woodsboro 9. The only reason he didn't score was a daring dive by Daniel Porras that caught Wright's ankle. Two plays later, Wright scored on a 3-yard plunge with just 68 seconds into the game. The snap on the conversion was mishandled and Scott Shimek's pass fell incomplete.

On Shiner's next possession, the Comanches 73 yards in 12 plays, with Garet Pustka going the last three with 4:29 left in the first quarter. Shiner went 39 yards in nine plays to score on a 1-yard run by Quentin Wright and R.J. Lester added the conversion for a 21-0 lead with 10:20 left in the half.

Steven Evans made a 10-yard scoring run with 3:21 left in the half to cap a 65-yard, 10-play drive and a 28-0 lead.

Justin Kinslow's 41-yard scramble sparked a 63-yard, seven-play scoring drive for Woodsboro. Kinslow hit Ryan Autry for the score with a 2-yard pass with 50 seconds left in the half.

The Eagles tried an onside kick but the Comanches got on the ball at their own 43. A 29-yard pass from Pustka to Steven Wright got Shiner in scoring range. From the 18, Quentin Wright tried to score but his weaving run came up a yard short as the half ended.

In the second half, Woodsboro tried to make it interesting as the Eagles scored on their first possession to briefly cut the Shiner lead to 28-13. The 55-yard, seven-play drive was remarkable for how it ended. Autry made the 11-yard touchdown catch lying flat on his back, sliding in the end zone to snare the tipped pass.

But that was the last break for the Eagle.

Shiner quickly went 46 yards in seven plays to score on a Pustka 10-yard run. Two Woodsboro fumbles set up scoring drives of 27 and 16 yards, yielding touchdowns on a 6-yard run by Wright and a 1-yarder by Murphy to push the lead to 35 points.
