Shiner Wins 30-1A Title

SHINER -- The Shiner Comanches finished the regular season undefeated and will ride into the playoffs with a 10-game winning streak after shutting out the Sabinal Yellow Jackets 47-0.

The victory gave Shiner (10-0, 5-0) the District 30-1A championship. The Comanches, the No. 1 team in the Associated Press' high school poll, will play Harper in next week's Class 1A bi-district playoff game. The site of the game has since been announced as Wimberly, Texas at 3:30pm on Saturday, November 18, 2000.

Shiner running back, Ray Gates, who came into Friday's game with 1,367 rushing yards, added another 114 yards along with three TDs to finish the regular season with 1,481 yards.

Gates scored his touchdowns in the first quarter on runs of 4, 5, and 11 yards.

Quarterback Travis Wright ran for a 1-yard TD and tossed a 10-yard scoring pass to receiver Devin Carroll.

Josh Smith added an 8-yard run and Adron Price closed the scoring with a 1-yard run. Sabinal ends the season with a record of 2-8, 1-4.
