FLATONIA - Shiner remained undefeated in District 30-1A after squeaking by the Flatonia Bulldogs with only seconds left in the game.

With 9 seconds remaining, Quentin Wright scored for Shiner, tying the game on a 7-yard run. With the game on the line, R.J. Lester put the ball through the uprights on the conversion, giving the Comanches a 23-22 win.

After a scoreless first quarter, Flatonia (5-5, 3-2) scored early in the second on a Kurt Kainer 13-yard touchdown run.

Shiner (9-1, 5-0) returned the favor 18 seconds later when Garet Pustka hit Eric Murphy on a 78-yard touchdown pass. Lester missed the extra point kick.

Flatonia drove back late in the second quarter and scored on a 9-yard William Richter pass to Galen Dunk, giving the Bulldogs a 14-6 halftime lead.

Despite a 23-yard third quarter field goal by Shiner's Lester, Flatonia increased its lead when Richer hit Dunk again on a 38-yard pass. Richter's 2-point conversion provided the Bulldogs a comfortable 22-9 fourth-quarter lead.

The Comanches, however, had yet to give up. Pustka punched the ball in from 2-yards out with little more than 4 minutes remaining, tightening the game 22-16.

Wright led the Comanches with 6 carries for 73 yards and the score. Chris Baer had 70 yards on 15 carries. Garet Pustka passed for 131 yards and a passing and rushing touchdown.

William Richter let the Bulldogs, hitting 18 out of 11 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Kainer had 6 carries for 55 yards.

Both Shiner and Flatonia advance to the playoffs.
