PFLUGERVILLE - Four of the first five batters in the Shiner softball team's lineup had three hits or more as the Lady Comanches finished off a two-game sweep of North Zulch with a 14-4 victory on Friday at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville.

Shiner (26-4), the top-ranked team in Class A, advanced to the region semifinal round where it will face Charlotte or Center Point. The Lady Comanches also won the series opener against North Zulch, 4-3, Wednesday night.

After forcing North Zulch into a three-up, three-down top of the first, Shiner got to work with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame. Ashley Shimek led off with a double before scoring the first run of the game on an Amber Ramirez single.

Ramirez scored on a Kristen Schacherl double, and two batters later, Schacherl scored on a Holly Haas single to give the Lady Comanches a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.

North Zulch (18-8) responded in the top of the second behind a trio of hits and a pair of errors to seize a 4-3 lead. MiKayla Imhoff reached base on an error before scoring the Lady Bulldogs' first run on a Harleigh Wilcox triple.

Wilcox scored on a Codi Poston single, and Poston scored the tying run on an outfield error, which also allowed Erica Keller to advance to third base. Keller scored on a Katie Gilbert single to give North Zulch a 4-3 lead.

Shiner then put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the second to score four runs and seize a 7-4 lead.

Megan Chumchal led off the inning being hit by a pitch before Lady Bulldogs pitcher Erin Diserens struck out the next two batters to move her team within an out of ending the inning.

But Ramirez drew a walk, Schacherl loaded the bases with an infield single, and Ryah Michalek hit a two-run double to score Chumchal and Ramirez.

Haas then drove Schacherl and Michalek across the plate with a single to put the Lady Comanches on top, 7-4, after two innings of play.

Shiner added three more runs in the bottom of the third as Ramirez hit an RBI double and Schacherl hit a two-run double to increase the Lady Comanche lead to 10-4. All three runs occurred with two outs as well.

After recording the first two outs of the bottom of the fifth, it looked as if North Zulch was going to extend the game past the fifth. But Shimek, Ramirez and Schacherl loaded the bases with back-to-back-to-back singles before all scoring on an error, which also allowed Michalek to advance to second.

Haas hit a bloop single to score Michalek for the game-clinching run.

"We haven't been in too many two-out rally situations," said Shiner coach Brandon Siegel. "We spotted (North Zulch) a lead early on with errors, but we kept hitting the ball and eliminated the mistakes."

Both Haas and Schacherl were 4-for-4, while Ramirez was 3-for-3 with a walk and Shimek was 3-for-4.
