Top-ranked Shiner gets past Falls City

FALLS CITY -- Travis Wright scored a pair of
touchdowns as the top-ranked and unbeaten Shiner
Comanches slogged their way to a 22-13 District
30-1A win over the Falls City Beavers Saturday.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday night,
but was was postponed after 48 seconds of play
Friday due to lightning in the area.
Both teams have already earned playoff berths but the
win assures Shiner (9-0, 4-0) at least a tie for the district
championship. The Comanches can wrap up the title on
Friday when they host Sabinal.
Falls City (7-2, 3-1), which had a six-game win streak
snapped, will finish the regular season at D'Hanis.
Wright, who rushed for 103 yards on 15 carries, scored
on runs of 31 and 11 yards. Ray Gates, who gained 163
yards on 21 carries, scored on a 30-yard run and the
Comanches added a safety when Adrian Price tackled
Falls City's Robbie Brown in the end zone.
Beaver quarterback Dusty Wiatrek tossed touchdown
passes of 22 yards to Brown and 44 yards to Alan
Gawlik. Wiatrek completed 17 of 28 passes for 239
yards and no interceptions. Gawlik had five catches for
85 yards while Tanner Moy had seven catches for 80
yards and Brown had four receptions for 61 yards.
