SCHULENBURG - The Shiner Comanches started out strong in the first quarter and managed to dominate the rest of the game, defeating the Schulenburg Shorthorns 28-14.
Shiner scored three times in the first quarter alone, beginning with a dive by Steven Evans with 8:04 left in the quarter.
Robbie Pavelka returned an interception 41 yards for a second touchdown with 5:35 left in the quarter. Then, in the waning seconds of the quarter, Desmond Brooks caught a pass from halfback Chris Baer and ran 32 yards for the third touchdown. R. J. Lester kicked the extra points.
Schulenburg got its first score on a 12-yard run by Donte Turner with 10:23 left in the first half. Bradley Green had the point after kick.
Shiner answered with 8:24 left on a 1-yard run by Lester, who also kicked the extra point.
Schulenburg's Turner made the final score of the night on a 4-yard run with 6:34 left in the third quarter and Green scored the extra point.
