WEIMAR - Thorndale's baseball season came to an end here Saturday afternoon as Thorndale fell 5-3 to the Shiner Comanches in game three of the region IV 1A baseball playoffs. Thorndale forced a third game in the series with a dramatic 8-7 game two win Friday night but a stellar pitching performance from Comanche lefthander Garet Pustka in game three was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome.

Game two saw the Comanches jump out to an early lead as a double steal gave Shiner a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Thorndale would answer quickly though as Wade Gilchrist delivered a two-out single with the bases loaded to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead after one inning.

The Bulldogs produced another two-out rally in the bottom of the second as a two-RBI double to left center by Easton Falke and a Shiner error made the score 5-1.

The Thorndale lead stretched to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Valente Reyes hit a two-RBI double off the wall in left center field, but Shiner finally got back on the scoreboard in the sixth inning as a pair of RBI singles cut the lead to 7-3.

Thorndale added one more run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI double from Falke which would prove to be the game winner.

The Comanches put on a furious rally in the bottom of the seventh to close the gap. A lead off triple followed by an RBI double cut the lead to 8-4 before Shiner put together a two out rally of their own. An RBI single from Scott Shimek cut the Thorndale lead to 8-5 before a two-run homerun from Brady Strauss cut the Bulldog lead to one.

The Comanche rally fell just short as the next batter grounded out to secure the win and force a deciding third game.

Thorndale again found themselves down early in game three as a costly error lead to a 2-0 Shiner lead.

Neither team would score again until the fifth inning as Comanche Russell Boothe scored from third base on a passed ball.

Shiner again scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead but Valente Reyes would answer with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the inning to cut the Comanche lead to 4-3.

Shiner added another run in the top of the seventh and the Bulldog batters could not overcome Pustka's pitching as the Comanches held on for the 5-3 win.
