SHINER COMANCHES VS. TIMPSON BEARS

The Shiner Comanches will rematch with the Timpson Bears in the Class 2A-DI state semifinals at 7pm today at Tomball ISD Stadium (20235 Cypress Rosehill Rd, Tomball). The Bears are undefeated and won the Region III championship with a 48-13 win over Centerville last Friday.

The Comanches won their second straight Region IV title after rolling over Refugio 55-14.

Timpson is scoring around 55 points a game and is giving up just 12.8 points a contest. The Bears have nine offensive and seven defensive starters as well as 18 seniors from the team that lost to the Comanches 49-7 last year in the state semifinals.

"They are definitely improved and their experience is a big thing," Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said.

The Bears run a spread offense that is very explosive with dual-threat quarterback Terry Bussey and All-State running back Braden Courtney.

Timpson runs the 3-3 stack on the defensive side of things.

"Their defensive line and linebackers play very aggressively," he said. "They have speed in the secondary. Our offense will need to control the ball, have no turnovers and score when we have opportunities."

The Bears' main weapon on defense is Courtney at middle linebacker.

The winner will face either Hawley or Marlin in the 2A-DI state championship game which will be played Dec. 22 at 7pm at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington.
