PLEASANTON -- Utilizing a strong running game, the Shiner Comanches rode to a 35-0 win over the Ben Bolt Badgers in the Class A Area game at Pleasanton last Friday.

Steven Evans ran for two touchdowns and caught a pass for another score.

Quarterback Garet Pustka returned a punt for a touchdown and ran five yards for another.

Shiner rushed for 294 yards while holding the Badgers to only 36. The Comanches added another 78 through the air. Ben Bolt passed for 250 yards, but Shiner contained the Badgers inside the 20-yard line on three drives.

Shiner (11-1) will now meet West Sabine in the regional play-off at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in Katy.

Pustka put the Comanches on the scoreboard with a 50-yard punt return with 6:58 left in the first period.

The Badgers stormed right back with a 59-yard pass play from David Ruiz to Ricky San Miguel to the Shiner 17.

The Comanches held and took over on downs at their 18-yard line. Shiner lost possession on a fumble on the Ben Bolt 33-yard line, only to regain control on their 29, thanks to a Casey Coleman interception.

Shiner’s next possession started on their 5-yard line. Two carries by Pustka, Chris Baer and Evans, plus a 15-yard penalty against the Badgers, set up the Comanches on the Ben Bolt 11-yard line.

Shiner was flagged for holding and suddenly the Comanches faced a first-and-20 on the 21.

Pustka went to the air and after three incompletions, he hit Evans with a 21-yard scoring strike. Chase O’Connor caught Pustka’s pass for the 2-point conversion and Shiner led 22-0 as the first half came to an end.

Ben Bolt took the second half kick off and drove to the Shiner 9-yard line only to be turned away by the Comanche defense.

The drive included a 59-yard pass play from Ruiz to Randy Arriola.

Sparked by good running by Chris Baer and a 16-yard pass to O’Connor the Comanches drove the length of the field and scored on a 5-yard run by Pustka with 2:30 left in the third quarter.

The Comanche defense again forced a punt and again the Comanches were deep in their end of the field.

The third quarter ended with Shiner on their 15-yard line. Shiner was forced to punt but Coleman recovered a fumble on the return and the Comanches were back on the offensive from midfield.

Five plays later Evans slipped into the end zone from the 1-yard line with 7:51 left in the game. The drive included a 20-yard pass from Trey Curtis, who took over at quarterback, to O’Connor. Ryan Kloesel added the PAT for a 35-0 final.
