The Shiner Comanches scored two touchdowns in less than a minute to close out the first half and take control of the game against Flatonia last Friday at Comanche Stadium.

Both teams entered the contest with a 4-1 district record and the winner would take second place in the district and gain a playoff spot.
Shiner downed Flatonia 34-8 in the all important game and advanced to bi-district.
Shiner will meet D'Hanis this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at East Central High School in San Antonio. The match-up will be a repeat of last year when the Comanches beat the Cowboys, 20-14.

The game started with a scoreless first quarter before Chris Baer scored on a 1-yard run at the 10:35 mark of the second period. Scott Shimek added the PAT and Shiner led 7-0.
The scoring drive, which started on the Shiner 46, took nine plays before Baer found the end zone.
The lead didn't last very long as Flatonia's R.J. Lester recovered a Shiner fumble on the Comanche 42. Four carries by A.J. Florus, an 8-yard run by Kurt Kainer and a personal foul penalty against Shiner put the Bulldogs on the Shiner 3-yard line. Florus drove into the end zone and Kainer tacked on the 2-point conversion and the Bulldogs look an 8-7 lead with 6:00 left in the half.

After an exchange of punts, Shiner got the ball and marched 40 yards into the end zone. Pustka carried twice for 17 yards and Baer capped the drive with a 13-yard run.
The 2-point conversion try failed but Shiner was up, 13-8 with :47 left in the half. On the first play following the kick off, Baer recovered a Bulldog fumble on the Flatonia 17.
Pustka covered the 17 yards in two carries, scoring on a 9-yard run. Shimek tacked on the PAT and Shiner went to the locker room with the momentum and a 20-8 lead.
Shiner look the second half kick off and marched 72 yards on seven plays with Baer scoring on a 12-yard run. Shimek was again good on the PAT kick and the Comanches extended their lead to 27-8.

Casey Coleman intercepted a Lester pass to stop the Bulldogs on the Shiner 21, but four plays later the Comanches coughed up the ball and Flatonia took possession on the Flatonia 45.
The Bulldogs were forced to punt and Shiner took to the warpath from their 46.
The Comanches used 11 plays, including a fourth down conversion, to set up Baer's 2-yard touchdown run. The drive included seven carries by Pustka, four by Baer and one by Quentin Wright.
The rest of the game was a defensive battle with two possessions by both teams with Shiner in control as time ran out. The Comanches worked the veer for 338 yards with Baer leading the offense with 151 yards on 17 carries. Wright carried 13 times for 106 yards and Pustka picked up 70 yards on 10 carries.
Trey Rainosek and Mason McCorkle added another 11 yards to end the game.

The Comanches were 0-7 in the passing department. Steven Evans punted four times for a 50.5 average.
The Bulldogs were held to only 71 yards rushing. They added 60 through the air but the total was way below their average.
Florus carried 11 times for 48 and Kurt Kainer had 10 carries for 42 yards. Lester completed six of 21 passes.
Shiner lost 2-of-3 fumbles and the Comanches were flagged seven times for 61 yards. Four of the penalties came in the final period.
