WEIMAR -- The Shiner Comanche defense held the Weimar Wildcats to just over 100 yards, but the Comanche offense let the ball drop seven times in a 6-2 loss to the Wildcats Friday in Weimar.

Weimar got all their yardage in the first half as the Comanche defense shut down the Wildcats in the second half to minus 1 yard total offense.

The Wildcats had to punt seven times in the contest but the Comanches could not sustain any drives.

"The game wasn't as bad as we thought at first, but the fumbles killed us. Especially when you fumble inside the 5-yard line," said Coach Billy Turek.

Turek noted that Shiner had a great defensive game, not giving Weimar much on offense.

He cited Adam Dawson, Shawn Flores, Kelsey Pohler, Josh Burchell and Devin Carroll for outstanding work.

The Wildcats scored their touchdown on a 22-yard run by Johnny Hadash early in the second quarter.

Weimar recovered five of Shiner's seven fumbles to stop all scoring drives for the Comanches.

Shiner had 228 yards but couldn't break across the goal line.

Shiner's two points came on a safety when Chris Baer led the Comanche charge to sack Weimar's Cody Emanis in the end zone in the final quarter of the game.

Baer led the Comanche rushing offense with 89 yards on eight carries. Bryan Franklin had 53 yards on 11 carries. Shiner completed four passes for 47 yards.

Hadash led Weimar with 51 yards on eight carries.

This week, the Comanches will play 3A Marion (2-1). "This will probably be the best team we will face this year," said Turek.

The Comanches will have their work cut out for them as they will have five starters on the sidelines with injuries. Filling their shoes will be a big task for Coach Turek and his staff.

Josh Burchell is lost for the season with his injury, but Garet Pustka, Josh Smith, Desmond Brooks, and Adron Price should be healed in time for district play.

Working on the offense and cutting out mistakes is their first priority this week.
