Shiner (9-1) vs. Ozona (9-2)
7 p.m. Friday at Mustang Stadium, Marble Falls
About Shiner: The Comanches begin their playoff run Friday night after
receiving a bye in the bi-district round by virtue of winning the
District 15-A-DI championship. Shiner has won its last eight games.
Comanches’ quarterback Trevion Flowers leads his team in rushing
(127-977, 9 TDs) and passing 316 yards, 4 TDs). Evel Jones (66-898, 9 TDs),
Jacob Stafford (72-526, 12 TDs) and Caleb Curtis (70-415, 6 TDs) also
carry the load offensively for Shiner, and Jones also is the leading
receiver with seven catches for 136 yards and 2 TDs.
About Ozona: The Lions enter tonight’s contest fresh off of a 41-21 rout
of Holland last week in the Class A-DI playoffs. They were the runners-up
of 13-A-DI to defending state champion Mason.
Ozona is led by quarterback Jayton Rodriguez, who threw for 116 yards
and 3 TDs in the win over Holland. Running back Alex Borrego is a threat
running and receiving, while tight end Jerrod DuBois is another receiving
threat and running back Daniel Gonzales is another running threat.
The Lions are multiple on offense and operate out of a 4-3 on defense,
but Shiner coach Steven Cerny won’t be surprised to see a 4-4, 5-2 or
5-3 alignment tonight.
